Help rebuild Redbourn Cricket Club

The first organised cricket match took place on Redbourn Common in the 1740s, one of the earliest recorded games in the country. Established in 1823 the club is nicknamed the Unicorns because of its emblem.

Over the past six years Redbourn Cricket Club has invested heavily in encouraging junior and ladies cricket and has attracted a growing number of players from both groups.

However, in order to be able to support the needs of the growing juniors, the ladies and 3 Senior teams, the club needed to ensure its 40 year old clubhouse met modern standards and decided the best way of doing this was to redevelop and extend the existing clubhouse.

The new extension featured showers in all the changing rooms; additional changing and showers for junior cricketers; disabled facilities including a disabled toilet; baby changing facilities; and a new grounds equipment storage area. The work also saw repairs to the main wooden pavilion.

Work to build the new extension started in September 2006, and was completed in June 2007. Funding for the £125,000 project came from several sources, including the Veolia Environmental Trust, which awarded the project a grant of £30,000 under the Landfill Communities Fund and the Parish Council which gave the renovation fund £6,000.

Clubhouse after fire

Never ones to take things lying down the members of Redbourn Cricket Club have decided to turn the recent tragic fire that has gutted their pavilion into an opportunity to create a better focus for community life, and of course cricket, in the village.

In order to this though we do need some help; if you click here you can view some of the equipment and facilities that we are looking to either raise money for or would be delighted to receive as donations.
